Why these curves are level-normalized
Echo authors each preset as frequency/gain anchors, interpolates them on a logarithmic frequency scale, samples the requested band grid, then subtracts the curve's mean. That keeps the shape while stopping a preset from masquerading as an improvement simply because it is louder.

What is the best 10-band equalizer preset?
There is no universal best preset. Bass Boost is a useful low-end starting point, Vocal Boost targets intelligibility, Podcast reduces rumble and boxiness, and genre presets change tone around typical instrumentation. Start with the closest goal, compare at matched loudness, and adjust for your headphone.
What are good 10-band EQ settings for bass?
Echo's source-verified Bass Boost curve uses +2.54, +4.45, and +3.12 dB at 31, 62, and 125 Hz, then reduces the higher bands to keep the curve level-normalized. It centers the strongest lift where bass is audible on more headphones instead of putting the largest boost at 31 Hz.
Why do some preset values include negative numbers?
Cutting is part of the tone change. A curve that only boosts every band mostly becomes a volume control and loses headroom. Echo subtracts each preset's mean level after resampling so the preset changes balance instead of winning a comparison merely by sounding louder.
Are genre presets the same as AutoEq?
No. A genre preset is a broad tonal preference for music content. AutoEq is headphone-specific correction based on a measured response and target curve. Apply a measured headphone correction first, then add only a gentle preference adjustment if your signal chain supports it.
