A useful next step.

This free online headphone test works with wired headphones, Bluetooth headphones, and earbuds connected to your current device. It plays short sine-wave tones in your browser. Choose what you hear; your next steps update immediately.

Start with the channel test, compare each side without changing device volume, then try a bass tone before and after adjusting the fit.

What this check can tell you

  • Whether you hear the left and right tones on the expected sides.
  • Whether one side feels quieter in your comparison.
  • Whether bass changes when you reseat the headphones.

It cannot measure sound pressure, headphone frequency response, or hearing. A faint tone depends on both your playback setup and hearing. Do not increase volume to make an inaudible tone audible. See the WHO’s safe-listening guidance for general listening advice.

Headphone test questions

How do I test my headphones online?
Lower your device volume, put on your headphones, and press Left and Right separately. Each tone should play on the matching side. Compare both sides at the same device volume, then try a brief bass tone. Select what you hear to get practical next steps.
Why does the left right headphone test play in both ears?
Mono audio settings can combine both channels. Check your device’s accessibility audio settings, audio balance, and spatial-audio effects. A mono speaker or output adapter can also prevent separation. The test cannot identify which setting or device caused it.
Why is one earbud quieter than the other?
Possible causes include ear-tip fit, a blocked grille, device balance settings, a connection problem, the earbud, or individual hearing. Reseat the earbuds, center the balance, and compare another device. Follow the manufacturer’s cleaning instructions. This check does not diagnose hearing or hardware faults.
How can I test bass on my headphones?
Try the 60, 100, and 160 Hz tones briefly at a low, comfortable volume. Compare before and after reseating the headphones or ear tips. If the bass changes with fit, improve the seal first. A quiet low-frequency tone alone does not prove a fault; your playback hardware and hearing both affect it.
Does this headphone test give a quality score or hearing result?
No. The page generates test signals and turns your own listening notes into suggested checks. It does not measure your headphones, record your microphone, or assess hearing. Digital signal level is not the loudness at your ears.
Can Echo Equalizer fix a broken or silent earbud?
No. EQ can change tonal balance during music playback, but it cannot repair damaged hardware, remove debris, or restore a disconnected channel. Fix channel, connection, and fit problems first. Echo is an Android equalizer for tuning working audio.
Is this test free and does it upload any audio?
The test is free and requires no signup. Test tones are generated in your browser; there is no audio upload, recording, or microphone permission. Listening selections stay in page memory and reset when you reload. Standard site analytics may record tool use and product clicks, without your listening selections.
