Bass Boost Without Distortion
For stronger bass without distortion, fix the headphone seal first, boost a broad low range by only a few decibels, and lower preamp or output gain before raising bands. Deep bass and mid-bass are different: add sub-bass for depth, reduce excess 125–250 Hz when the result becomes boomy, and use a limiter only as protection.
Start with the physical fit
A poor ear-tip seal or a gap around an earcup can remove low-frequency energy before software touches the signal. Which EQ bands add deep bass?
On a 10-band EQ, 31 and 62 Hz mostly shape depth; 125 Hz adds punch and warmth. Exact overlap depends on the equalizer and headphone.
Why do vocals disappear after bass boost?
Excess 125–500 Hz can mask midrange detail, and louder bass changes perceived balance. Reduce upper bass or low mids before boosting vocals.
How much preamp should I lower?
Following the profile's recommendation is best. Without one, lowering by roughly the largest positive boost is a conservative starting check; real peak behavior depends on the filters and source.
Does a limiter prevent all distortion?
