    Start flat with one EQ active. Use a familiar section of music at a comfortable level.

Deep but clean bass

Keep the shelf broad, leave output headroom, and stop before the lowest notes lose pitch definition.

Boomy bass

Reduce 80–250 Hz before adding more treble. Excess upper bass often hides vocals and kick definition.

Bass disappears outdoors

Wind and environmental noise mask lows. Noise isolation or ANC can reduce the urge to raise levels.

Limiter pumps

The boost is driving gain reduction too often. Lower the bass or output instead of shortening every limiter control.

Which EQ bands add deep bass?

On a 10-band EQ, 31 and 62 Hz mostly shape depth; 125 Hz adds punch and warmth. Exact overlap depends on the equalizer and headphone.

Why do vocals disappear after bass boost?

Excess 125–500 Hz can mask midrange detail, and louder bass changes perceived balance. Reduce upper bass or low mids before boosting vocals.

How much preamp should I lower?

Following the profile's recommendation is best. Without one, lowering by roughly the largest positive boost is a conservative starting check; real peak behavior depends on the filters and source.

Does a limiter prevent all distortion?

No. It can control digital peaks but cannot repair a leaking seal, overloaded headphone driver, clipped recording or another stage that already distorted.

Is more sub-bass always safer than mid-bass?
