A lossless file can be decoded, mixed, equalized, resampled, encoded for Bluetooth, processed again inside the headphones, and finally converted to sound. The useful question is not only whether Spotify supplied FLAC. It is which stages remain in the active route and where lossy encoding occurs.

Decisions that matter more than the badge

Use Bluetooth for convenience

Keep it when mobility and stable playback matter most. Lossless source quality can still avoid an earlier low-bitrate stream even though Bluetooth performs another encode.

Use wired or USB for a controlled test

This removes the ordinary Bluetooth codec from the comparison, but the Android output and DAC must still support the intended format.

Use Connect for compatible speakers

The receiver streams from Spotify directly. Adjust EQ, room correction, or tone controls on that device rather than the phone.

Do not chase inaudible labels

A different master, volume mismatch, poor seal, noise, or headphone tuning can dominate the result. Control those variables first.

Does Spotify Lossless work over Bluetooth?

Spotify can supply a lossless source, but conventional Bluetooth audio usually re-encodes it with a lossy codec. The listening route is therefore not lossless end to end.

Does Android EQ stop Lossless from working?

EQ changes sample values but is not automatically lossy compression. The Android mixer may also resample. The larger end-to-end break on a conventional Bluetooth route is the Bluetooth encode.

Does Spotify Connect use the phone EQ?

No. A Connect receiver streams Spotify itself while the phone acts as a controller. Use the receiver's own sound controls.

Is USB always bit-perfect?

No. Android mixing, sample-rate conversion, app behavior and DAC support can change the path. Verify the active output instead of relying on the cable.

Will Lossless always sound better?

Not necessarily in an uncontrolled comparison. Mastering, loudness, headphones, fit, environment and hearing can outweigh the difference.
